'Beautiful Mind' mathematician John Nash killed in New Jersey ca

USPA News - Nobel Economics Prize winner John Nash, whose life was the subject of the 2001 movie "A Beautiful Mind," was killed Saturday when the taxi he was traveling in crashed in New Jersey, police said on Sunday. His wife Alicia was also killed.

The accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. local time on Saturday when a taxicab veered off the New Jersey Turnpike in Middlesex County and struck a guide rail before crashing into another vehicle in the center lane. John Nash, 86, and his wife Alicia Nash, 82, were both ejected from their rear seats onto the highway, where they were both pronounced dead. "Preliminary information indicates that neither John nor Alicia Nash were wearing their seatbelts, although a thorough examination of the taxi will be performed," New Jersey State Police said in a statement on Sunday. The driver of the taxi, 46-year-old Tarek Giris, was left trapped in the vehicle until he was freed by firefighters, after which he was flown to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured, while her front seat passenger, a 69-year-old woman, was taken to an area hospital for neck pain. It was not immediately clear if any charges would be filed in connection with the accident, though a statement from police noted that seatbelts are required to be worn by all occupants of passenger vehicles that are equipped with them.
