UPDATE1 -- Man in custody after possible shooting at North Carolina university

USPA News - A man was arrested on Thursday at a university in North Carolina that had issued a lockdown over a "possible" active shooter on campus, officials and witnesses said. There were unconfirmed reports that shots had been fired, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The incident began at around 2:35 p.m. local time when police received reports of an active shooter at or near the Mary M. Townes Science Building at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), which is a historically black university in the city of Durham. Campus sirens were activated shortly after. "The NCCU campus is on lockdown. Please stay away from all windows and doors. There is a possible active shooter on campus," the university said in an Eagle Alert notification sent to students at 2:39 p.m. local time. The all-clear signal was sounded about half an hour later, and it appeared no one was injured. Video footage from the scene showed a man in police custody and being placed in a patrol car as officials gave the all-clear. It was not immediately clear if actual shots had been fired in Thursday`s incident, but one student told WTVD-TV that he heard several gunshots just before the lockdown. University officials advised students to continue business as usual after the lockdown ended.
